An inspection tool built for the spaces people avoid.

In December 2022, my dad announced the need for an easier system of inspecting a crawlspace, so this was when I started brainstorming solutions.

March 2023, The development of the prototype began. This system began with rudimentary electronics and mechanics, as everything was off-the-shelf components.

May 2023, Started Field testing the first prototype, and issues quickly arose; the clearance was high due to the tan-pilt mechanism, and the rover would get high-centered on everything.

June 2023, development of the second prototype began; this one concentrated on solving the clearance and proving the theory could work.

September 2024, the second prototype was finished, and field testing took place. This is where the theory came to life; it’s a low-clearance rover that solved my dad’s crawlspace inspection issues.

Late September 2024, Field Testing came to an abrupt stop as the range was very short; the video could only go up to 15-20 feet away with no line of sight.)

October 2024, brainstorming ways to better the range, mobility, and user interface.

February 2025, Development began, Same motors and drive train as the first prototype, as this phase was mainly about technology and programming, and less about the drive train.

August 2025, 3rd prototype finished, and the theory for the reworked radio system and user interface works field testing proved a range increase of up to 10x the distance of the previous solutions only issue was that the drive train was outdated.

November 2025, the 3rd prototype got 7in wheels, a custom chassis, and the case to watch the live video and send controls was developed.

December 2025-Present, reworking bugs and field testing the 3rd prototype as it proves to be the most promising solution for conducting reliable, safe, and efficient crawlspace inspections.

I’m AJ, and I’ve been building the Scrutinizer for the past three years. What started as a solution to an inspection problem is now close to off-the-shelf use, designed so anyone can master it quickly while improving safety, efficiency, and cleanliness on every inspection.
